We at Quarry Hills strongly advise building and homeowners in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, to hire a licensed and insured plumber to perform any task involving water, drainage, venting, and gas. Should you decide to choose a competitor of ours, we wish you the best, but you may be subject to shoddy and inferior workmanship. Here are a few problems local inspectors find most often:

  1. Drainpipes don’t have enough grade. As a result, waste does not flow with sufficient momentum and stoppages occur.
  2. Pipes are not adequately supported. This can result in loud “hammering” in the case of water supply lines and in stoppages, in the case of drainpipes.
  3. The water heater or furnace flue connection has not been checked for proper draft. If a chimney is partially clogged, dangerous combustion products may accumulate inside the house.
  4. There is not enough ventilation in the room where the water heater or furnace is installed. Again, this prevents a proper draft and causes dangerous combustion products to accumulate.
  5. The water heater flue is dangerously close to combustible materials. A fire-resistant shield shield must be installed or this piping must be piped away from these materials.
  6. A gas or water shutoff valve has not been installed at a water heater, furnace, dishwasher, or other appliance. This means the home or building’s total gas or water supply will have to be shut down if an appliance needs repair.
  7. Electrical grounding has been eliminated. Water supply pipes serve as the ground for a home’s ground in case of lightning. If plastic pipe is used to replace disintegrated galvanized steel water supply pipes from the outside meter, this ground is eliminated and a substitute grounding system must be installed.
  8. A fixture trap leaks where it has not been properly tightened.
  9. A toilet, sink, or other fixture is not tightly secured.
  10. The hole where a pipe leaves the home or building through a wall and is not properly sealed against moisture.

If you have fallen victim to any of these common problems listed above, call Quarry Hills Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling 617-939-3140. We will pay strict attention to the details others have forgotten.
